For many years, doses of 1 - 3 grams of nicotinic acid per day has been a treatment option for low HDL cholesterol, high LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. However, newer studies have shown use of nicotinic acid for treating these problems may actually increase your risk of heart and blood vessel problems.
